FILM PRODUCTION WORKSHOP at GW Graham Secondary
This workshop-style, hands-on film program is a unique offering in our school district, designed to immerse students in every aspect of film production. Over a full-semester, all-day format, students take a deep dive into the filmmaking process, exploring various disciplines such as screenwriting, sound design, cinematography, acting, lighting, editing, and even prop and set creation.
Students develop lasting connections with peers who share their passion for filmmaking, while also building relationships with professionals in the film industry—locally and beyond.
GW Graham is proud to be an official affiliate of the Vancouver Film School (VFS). Through this partnership, our students gain access to exclusive workshops on topics like Film Auditions, After Effects software, and Voice Over, along with discounted tuition opportunities at VFS.
Since its inception two years ago, the Production Workshop has produced multiple award-winning short films, including the infamous Rat King, which was featured in MovieMaker Magazine.
Our projects range from independent student-driven films to larger collaborative class productions. One notable project involved shooting a dramatic film at Chilliwack Airport using a retired Cessna 410 airplane. Another highlight was the creation of a vintage apartment set in our classroom, used as the backdrop for Rat King.
Students consistently express gratitude for the extended, uninterrupted time this workshop provides, allowing them to fully immerse themselves in their projects without the rush of transitioning to another class.
Each year, our program hosts the Chilliwack Student Film Festival in the Graham Theatre, where students have the opportunity to showcase their work. They are also encouraged to submit their films to various local and international festivals, including our own.
